
Qianwen Zhang, male, born in April 1966. He obtained his Bachelor's degree from the Department of Organic Chemistry at South China University of Technology in 1986, and his Master's degree in Organic Chemical Engineering from Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Industry in 1989, where he stayed for research work. He received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Tsinghua University in September 1999 and returned to Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Industry, being exceptionally promoted to Senior Engineer in September 1995. From September 2002 to December 2014, he was a Postdoctoral Visiting Researcher at Kitakyushu University in Japan. From January to December 2005, he worked as Chief Researcher at Japan Gas Synthesis Co., Ltd., engaged in C1 chemistry and chemical technology research, responsible for catalyst development, pilot testing, and process technology development and application. In January 2006, he returned to China from Japan as an introduced talent and joined Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology as a Professor, later serving as a Ph.D. supervisor in Chemical Engineering and Technology at Beijing University of Chemical Technology. From March to December 2011, he was a Visiting Professor at the California Institute of Energy and Environment (formerly the Energy and Environment Research Institute of California Institute of Technology) in the United States.
His long-term research focuses on petrochemicals, clean energy utilization, and industrial catalysis. As project leader, he has undertaken several key projects of Sinopec Group, completed the basic design of China's first independently designed large-scale ethylene plant C3 hydrogenation unit, and successively completed basic designs for 13 large-scale new ethylene plants or ethylene revamps both domestically and internationally. He has won one Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Invention from Sinopec and two Third Prizes for Scientific and Technological Progress from Sinopec Group. He has applied for 31 invention patents, with 13 authorized, published over 60 papers, and authored (or translated) 3 books.
