About BIPT

Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology is a high-level applied university with a strong engineering focus, integrating multiple disciplines including engineering, science, management, economics, and humanities, and distinguished by its distinctive engineering practice. Founded in 1978, the institution was transferred to Beijing municipal administration by Sinopec Group in February 2000. In April 2025, with approval from the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Beijing Jinyu Science and Technology School was fully merged into the institute. The university holds the authority to confer master's degrees and is designated as a doctoral degree-granting institution under Beijing's doctoral development program.

The main campus of the university, Qingyuan Campus, is located at No.19 Qingyuan North Road, Daxing District, Beijing. It also operates branch campuses in Fangshan, Daxing Kangzhuang, and Yanshan, covering a total area of 635 mu (approximately 100 acres). The institution comprises 11 academic departments, 1 research institute, and 1 affiliated school. By 2025, it is projected to enroll 13,000 full-time students, including over 10,000 undergraduates and nearly 1,500 graduate students.

The university currently offers 33 undergraduate programs, including 8 national first-class programs, 3 national distinctive programs, 16 Beijing first-class programs (3 of which are key development programs), and 5 Beijing distinctive programs. Seven programs have obtained national engineering education accreditation, while 8 are selected for the Ministry of Education's "Outstanding Engineer Education and Training Program" pilot, and 1 is included in the "Comprehensive Reform Pilot Program". Annually, 60% of students participate in the Undergraduate Research Training (URT) program and academic competitions, with 40% winning awards at provincial or ministerial levels or higher.

The university aligns with the strategic emerging industries and future industrial development needs of the capital, prioritizing disciplines such as materials and chemical engineering, intelligent manufacturing, and urban safety operations and management. It actively cultivates specialized fields in electronics, energy conservation, environmental protection, and biomedicine, while advancing interdisciplinary integration in areas like "AI+", "security and emergency response", and green low-carbon technologies. Currently, it offers master's programs in six first-level disciplines including mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, and control science and engineering, along with seven professional master's degree categories in auditing, electronics, and mechanical engineering, and hosts a postdoctoral research station. The mechanical engineering discipline has been selected as a high-precision and cutting-edge construction discipline in Beijing, co-developed with Tsinghua University, and approved as a municipal university's emerging interdisciplinary platform for pharmaceutical chemistry and equipment. Its "Engineering" discipline ranks in the top 1% globally according to ESI.

The university actively conducts applied research aligned with national strategic priorities, Beijing's socioeconomic development, and frontline industrial needs, contributing to the city's development as an international hub for scientific innovation. It operates multiple innovation platforms, including Beijing Key Laboratories, Beijing Higher Education Engineering Research Centers, and national industry association engineering laboratories. Key research institutions comprise the Capital Clean Energy (Oil & Gas) Supply and Usage Security Technology Collaborative Innovation Center, Beijing Institute of Safety Engineering Technology, and Zhongguancun Energy Engineering Intelligent Equipment Industry Technology Research Institute. Over the past five years, the university has secured nearly 200 projects, including sub-projects under the National Key R&D Program, National Natural Science Foundation grants, and provincial/ministerial-level initiatives. These efforts have yielded landmark achievements in healthcare, urban energy security, and smart manufacturing, with applications spanning Beijing Daxing International Airport, Winter Olympics infrastructure, pandemic response, rail transit systems, and oil and gas resource development.

The university has 1,024 faculty and staff members, including 801 full-time teachers. Among the full-time higher education faculty, 67.5% hold doctoral degrees and 52.1% hold senior professional titles. The institution has 310 master's supervisors and 24 doctoral supervisors. It currently has 3 national-level high-level talents, 11 experts enjoying the State Council's special government allowance, and 10 individuals have been listed in the "Global Top 2% Scientists Ranking".

The university continuously deepens cooperation with local and corporate partners. It has established talent cultivation bases with over 200 enterprises and institutions, including Sinopec Yanshan Petrochemical Company, Daxing Biomedical Industry Base, and Zhongguancun Software Park, to build a deeply integrated education mechanism that combines government, industry, academia, research, and application. The university actively broadens students 'international perspectives and enhances their cross-cultural capabilities, maintaining long-term stable partnerships with more than 30 universities or research institutions in over 10 countries. It collaborates with EFREI PARIS to run the "Sino-French Engineer Class," partners with DIPLOMA HOCHSCHULE to offer the "Sino-German Mechanical Engineering Class," collaborates with FOM University to jointly cultivate master's programs, and set up the International Accountant (ACCA) Experimental Class. The university provides overseas scholarships for its students, annually funding a certain percentage of them to visit and study at universities in Europe and America. It also admits international students at various levels, including language students, undergraduates, postgraduates, and postdoctoral fellows, from Belt and Road countries.

The university is a pilot institution for CDIO engineering education reform under the Ministry of Education, one of the first pilot institutions for the "Excellence in Engineering Education and Training Program" under the Ministry of Education, a demonstration university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform in Beijing, and a university with admission qualifications for high-level athletes. It is also a national experimental base for industry-university-research cooperative education, a Beijing municipal-level construction unit for quality education of college students, and a national talent training base for the "Belt and Road" initiative in Beijing.
