Zhilong Yao




Zhilong Yao, male, born in November 1971. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Southwest Petroleum University in 1994, Master's degree in Organic Chemical Engineering from China University of Petroleum (Beijing) in 1997, and Ph.D. in Chemical Technology from Research Institute of Petroleum Processing in 2008. He has served as Project Leader, Engineer and Senior Engineer at Sinopec Research Institute of Petroleum Processing. Currently, he is a Professor at Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology and Director of Beijing Key Laboratory of Enze Biomass Fine Chemicals.

He has long been engaged in catalyst and catalytic process development for biomass conversion and fine chemical production. He has presided over and participated in more than 40 research projects, including National Natural Science Foundation-Petrochemical Joint Key Project, Chinese Academy of Sciences Consulting Project, Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission Key Project, Beijing Municipal Education Commission Key Project, as well as projects commissioned by Sinopec, CNPC, Yanchang Petroleum and other enterprises. Several catalytic technologies developed by him have been industrialized, including ionic liquid-catalyzed synthesis of n-propyl acetate, synthesis of sec-butyl acetate, biodiesel production from waste oils, environmentally friendly plasticizer production from waste oils, MTBE desulfurization by ionic liquid adsorption distillation, catalytic distillation for polymer-grade isobutene synthesis, and Guerbet alcohol synthesis. These technologies have been applied in 30+ industrial plants with capacities ranging from 30,000 to 120,000 tons/year in petrochemical enterprises. As the first contributor, he has won the Second Prize and Third Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award and the Second Prize of Science and Technology Book Award from China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. He has published over 60 papers (20+ indexed by SCI/EI), applied for 70+ national invention patents (50+ authorized), authored 2 monographs and co-authored 3 monographs. He was selected as Beijing "Great Wall Scholar" in 2014.
