Robotics Engineering

Educational Objectives

Oriented towards the national intelligent manufacturing development strategy and trends in robotics technology, and grounded in engineering applications, this program cultivates applied engineering professionals who meet the needs of national construction and economic development, possess solid foundational knowledge in engineering and the fundamental theories and practical skills of robotics, demonstrate sound humanistic literacy, professional ethics, and social responsibility, and are capable of working in robotics engineering and related fields in areas such as development and design, production and manufacturing, applied research, technology integration, system installation, equipment operation and maintenance, project management, and marketing and sales.

Program Features

Program Advantages: A newly established and key-supported emerging engineering discipline by the Ministry of Education, approved in 2018, enrolling students since 2019, and selected in 2021 as a Beijing Municipal First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Site. The program benefits from strong industry application backgrounds and research platforms in robotics, and hosts a Beijing-level academic innovation team, a Beijing-level high-level innovation team, and a Beijing-level outstanding teaching team. Research on specialized robots such as underwater robots and welding robots ranks among the nation's leaders, while work on medical robots, material-handling robots, and service robots is at an advanced domestic level.

Outstanding Faculty: The program has a high-caliber teaching faculty, including one expert receiving a Special Government Allowance, two national-level talents, one recipient of the Ministry of Education's New Century Excellent Talents Support Program, two awardees of the Beijing "Great Wall Scholar" Program, one awardee of the Beijing "High-Level Talent" Program, one awardee of the Beijing "Science and Technology Nova" Program, one Beijing High-Precision & Cutting-Edge Scientific Research Innovation Team, two leaders of Beijing Academic Innovation Teams, one Beijing High-Level Teaching Innovation Team, and one Beijing Outstanding Teaching Team. Senior-title faculty account for 80% of full-time teaching staff, and faculty holding doctoral degrees account for 85%.

Disciplinary Platforms: The program offers master's degree programs in Mechanical Engineering (academic) and Mechanical Engineering (professional), and jointly builds the Beijing High-Precision & Cutting-Edge Discipline in Mechanical Engineering with Tsinghua University. It has established two Beijing Key Laboratories and one Beijing Higher Education Institution Engineering Research Center; it also hosts one National Engineering Practice Education Center and one National Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center, two Beijing Off-Campus Talent Training Bases and one National Off-Campus Practice Education Base for College Students; and it offers one National First-Class Course and one Beijing Municipal Excellent Course.

Curriculum System: Centered on cultivating professional competencies in robotics engineering, the curriculum emphasizes the integration of hardware and software and covers a broad range of professional knowledge, including industrial robot structural design and control technology, robotic sensing and detection technology, robot system integration and programming application technology, and intelligent robot control technology. It implements a "Four-Year Continuous Enterprise-Based Learning" practical teaching system to focus on developing students' engineering practice ability, engineering design capability, and awareness of technological innovation.

Practical Teaching Bases: Off-campus practical teaching primarily relies on the National Engineering Practice Education Center co-established by the university and Sinopec Yanshan Company, and collaborates with dozens of enterprises and institutions—including Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd. in Beijing E-Town Economic and Technological Development Area, Yaskawa Motoman Robotics (Beijing) Co., Ltd., and Tangshan Kaiyuan Robot Co., Ltd.—to jointly build practice bases, providing strong support for enhancing the quality of engineering education in the program.

Main Courses

Mechanical Drawing, Engineering Mechanics, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Transmission, Principles of Microcontrollers and Interface Technology, PLC Control Systems, Fundamentals of Mechanical Design, Analog Electronics Technology, Digital Electronics Technology, Principles of Automatic Control, Fundamentals of Robotics Technology, Robot Servo Control, Robot Perception Technology, Robot Operating System (ROS), etc.

Domestic Graduate Studies

For students intending to pursue further studies, the program provides various forms of postgraduate entrance examination guidance and supports active preparation. It is estimated that over 10% of students each year are admitted to graduate programs at universities such as Beihang University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, China University of Petroleum (Beijing), University of Science and Technology Beijing, Beijing University of Technology, and Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology.

Overseas Further Studies

The program has established long-term and stable cooperative relationships with more than ten overseas universities, including St. Cloud State University (USA), University of Canberra (Australia), University of the West of Scotland (UK), ESIEE Amiens – ?cole Supérieure d’Ingénieurs en ?lectrotechnique et ?lectronique (France), Technische Universit?t Dresden (Germany), and University of Malaya (Malaysia). Students may apply for international exchange programs jointly offered by these institutions and our university, or independently apply to other overseas universities for further study, including the University of Birmingham, University of Leeds, Cardiff University, and others.

Employment Prospects

Robotics Engineering is a national strategic emerging industry and a newly established emerging engineering discipline in recent years. Graduates can work in various domestic and international enterprises, design institutes, research institutes, and high-tech companies related to intelligent manufacturing, engaging in positions such as design, installation and commissioning, and retrofitting of robotic workstations, as well as design, application, and operational management of robotic automated production lines. Expected employers include but are not limited to:
