Training Objectives

Rooted in Beijing and oriented to the whole country, this program aims to cultivate high-quality applied talents who can meet the needs of national construction and economic development. These talents should master solid basic engineering knowledge, as well as the fundamental theories and professional skills of the intelligent manufacturing major. They need to possess a certain sense of innovation and engineering practice ability in the field of intelligent manufacturing, and be capable of engaging in work such as the design and manufacturing of intelligent manufacturing equipment and intelligent products, engineering development, scientific research, and production management. Ultimately, they should become high-quality applied talents in intelligent manufacturing fields such as intelligent welding technology and special processing technology, with humanistic and social science literacy, social responsibility, and good interpersonal and cooperative abilities.

Professional Advantages:

The Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering major is a new engineering major first established by the Ministry of Education in 2017. Based on the teaching foundation of national first-class majors such as Mechanical Engineering and Automation, our university successfully applied for and obtained the undergraduate degree-awarding qualification for the Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering major in 2023.

The discipline construction team of this major includes Beijing municipal academic innovation teams, Beijing municipal high-level innovation teams, and Beijing municipal excellent teaching teams. Its capabilities in fields like special processing technology and intelligent manufacturing equipment research and development rank among the advanced levels in China.

Adhering to a student-centered approach and aiming to cultivate high-quality applied engineering and technical talents, this major upholds the educational philosophy of "advocating practice and emphasizing both knowledge and action". Relying on the national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, national engineering practice education center, national off-campus practice education base for college students, and the characteristic Chuangyuan Training Center of our university, it actively carries out innovative practical activities such as college students' discipline competitions, innovation and entrepreneurship programs, and practical training plans. These efforts are dedicated to developing students' practical skills in intelligent manufacturing engineering, engineering design capabilities, and awareness of scientific and technological innovation.

Excellent Faculty Team:

The faculty team of the Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering major includes two experts enjoying the Special Government Allowance of the State Council, one member of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Mechanical Majors in Institutions of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, one winner of the first Beijing University Teaching Famous Teacher Award, and two recipients of the Beijing Science and Technology New Star Award.

Teachers in this team have accumulated rich experience in talent cultivation for the Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering major and research on national-level major projects. Their academic backgrounds cover mechanical engineering, mechatronic engineering, mechanical design theory, intelligent software system development, integrated circuit system design, special processing technology, precision instruments and machinery, control theory and control engineering, etc. Full-time teachers possess extensive teaching experience.

All part-time teachers hired from outstanding enterprises in the intelligent manufacturing industry have profound engineering practice experience.

Disciplinary Platforms:

The Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering major is affiliated with the School of Mechanical Engineering. It has three provincial and ministerial-level scientific research platforms, including the Beijing Key Laboratory of Optomechatronic Equipment Technology, Beijing municipal academic innovation teams such as the "Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Equipment Intelligence Team", and research centers like the Intelligent Manufacturing and Intelligent Equipment Research Center. It carries out the construction of integrating science and education for talent cultivation.

Curriculum System:

With the cultivation of professional competencies in Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering as the main thread, the curriculum emphasizes the integration of software and hardware. It enables students to master a wide range of professional knowledge, including structural design and control technology of intelligent manufacturing equipment, intelligent perception and detection technology, digital manufacturing technology, and electromechanical drive control.

The curriculum adopts a practical teaching system of "four-year continuous enterprise learning education", focusing on developing students' practical abilities in intelligent manufacturing engineering, engineering design capabilities, and awareness of scientific and technological innovation.

Practical Teaching Bases:

The off-campus practical teaching of the major mainly relies on the national-level Engineering Practice Education Center co-established by the university and Yanshan Petrochemical. It also has jointly-built practical bases with dozens of enterprises and public institutions, including Mercedes-Benz Automobile Company in Beijing Yizhuang Economic and Technological Development Zone, Yaskawa Shougang Motoman Robot Co., Ltd., and Tangshan Kaiyuan Robot Co., Ltd.

Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology has one national-level virtual simulation experimental teaching center, three municipal-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, ten on-campus training bases, and 117 off-campus teaching internship bases. All these bases can fully meet the needs of teaching, experiments, and training for this major, providing strong support for improving the quality of engineering education of the major.

Mechanical Drawing, Intelligent Perception and Detection Technology, Electrical Control and PLC Application, Principle and Interface Technology of Single-Chip Microcomputer, Electromechanical Drive Control, Theoretical Mechanics, Material Mechanics, Mechanical Design and Manufacturing, Fundamentals of Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Manufacturing Technology, Principles of Automatic Control, Digital Manufacturing Technology, etc.

Postgraduate Study in China:

For students interested in further academic studies, the major provides various postgraduate entrance exam guidance to help them actively prepare for the exam. According to the postgraduate entrance exam situation of the department in previous years, more than 10% of students are admitted to postgraduate programs of universities each year, including Beihang University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, China University of Petroleum (Beijing), University of Science and Technology Beijing, Beijing University of Technology, and Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology.

Overseas Further Study:

The major creates favorable conditions for students to broaden their international horizons and has established cooperative relationships with many foreign universities, including the University of the West of Scotland (UK) and the University of Duisburg (Germany). Students can apply for government-funded international cooperation and exchange programs at these foreign universities, or they can apply to study and pursue further education at other foreign universities, such as the University of Birmingham, the University of Leeds, and Cardiff University in the UK.

Career Prospects:

Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering is a national emerging industry and a new engineering major established in recent years. Graduates can work in domestic and foreign intelligent manufacturing-related enterprises, design institutes, research institutes and high-tech companies, undertaking roles like intelligent manufacturing workstation design, assembly, debugging and transformation, as well as intelligent production line design, application and operation management.
