Program Highlights
Program Strengths:
This program was recognized as one of the first National First-Class Undergraduate Major Construction Sites in 2019. It passed the National Engineering Education Accreditation in 2017 and again in 2020. As a pilot major under the Ministry of Education's "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program", it is also a Beijing Municipal Featured Major. The program's efforts in "Outcome-Oriented Polymer Materials and Engineering Major Construction and Practice" were awarded the Second Prize of Beijing Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award in 2022.
Faculty:
The program boasts a high-caliber faculty of 22 full-time teachers, including 5 professors and 11 associate professors, with 72.7% holding senior professional titles and 86.4% holding doctoral degrees. Additionally, 56% of the faculty have engineering backgrounds. The team includes 1 Beijing Teaching Master, 1 Beijing Excellent Teacher, 1 recipient of the Beijing March 8th Red-Banner Medal, and 1 top-tier innovative talent. In 2021, the faculty was recognized as a National Outstanding Team in Petroleum and Chemical Engineering Education.
Disciplinary Platforms:
The program is supported by the Beijing Key Laboratory for Special Elastomer Composite Materials and the Beijing Academic Innovation Team for Biomedical Materials, as well as the Materials Science discipline, a Beijing Key Development Discipline. It offers a first-level academic master's degree program in Materials Science and Engineering and a professional master's program in Materials and Chemical Engineering. The program features one national first-class course, two high-quality Beijing municipal courses, one Beijing municipal demonstration course on ideological and political education, and one Beijing virtual teaching and research office.
Industry-Academia Collaboration and Practical Education:
Adhering to the philosophy of "valuing practice and integrating knowledge and action," the program emphasizes the development of students' engineering practice skills, with practical credits accounting for 31% of the curriculum. The program has established cooperative agreements with leading companies in the new materials industry, such as Yanshan Petrochemical Corporation, Beijing OriginWater Membrane Technology, Beijing Fust New Materials, Beijing Julingyan, Renolit, Lear Corporation, and Beijing Zhongke Nano, among others. These partnerships provide internship opportunities, practical training bases, and seamless integration of internships, graduation projects, and employment, effectively preparing students for their careers and bridging the "last mile" of employment.
Comprehensive Mentoring System:
The program adopts a personalized and meticulous approach to student development through an all-round mentoring system. From their freshman year, students can join their mentors' research groups and participate in projects, experiencing graduate-level training early on. All students participate in the Undergraduate Research Training Program (URT) and various academic competitions, fostering their innovative capabilities.
Core Curriculum
