Overview
Business Administration is a key discipline at Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology. Grounded primarily in economics and behavioral science, it employs analytical methods such as statistics, mathematical modeling, and case study analysis to examine the formation, characteristics, and interrelationships of various managerial behaviors and decision-making processes within enterprises and economic organizations.
The Master of Business Administration program in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences offers two secondary disciplinary specializations: Tourism Management and Human Resource Management. Aligned with the strategic needs of national and regional economic and social development, particularly in the context of Beijing as the capital, the program has developed distinctive research areas, including Digital and Intelligent Tourism, Tourism Enterprise Operations Management, Green and Low-Carbon Tourism and Sustainable Development, Digital Human Resource Management, ESG and Human Resource Management, and Green and Low-Carbon Enterprise Management. The cultivation of postgraduate talent emphasizes an integrated approach that closely links industry practice, scientific research, and services to regional sustainable development.
Faculty & Staff
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences boasts a dedicated and academically strong faculty team. It currently has 55 staff members, including 47 full-time faculty members. Among them, 42.6% hold senior professional titles, 73% have doctoral degrees, and 30% serve as graduate supervisors. The school has appointed one professor from Peking University, two Beijing Municipal Teaching Masters, and three young teachers won the Outstanding Instructor Awards of the Beijing Teaching Skills Competition.
Research Fields and Characteristics
The master's program of Business Administration in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences offers two disciplinary specializations: Tourism Management and Human Resource Management. Both specializations are closely aligned with national strategic priorities and the forefront of global industry development in their research focus.
The Tourism Management program responds to global demands for green, low-carbon, and circular economy development, with a focus on innovation-driven green tourism and the integration of culture and tourism. It emphasizes building destination brand equity, advancing the digital and intelligent transformation of cultural tourism, promoting sustainable development within the sector, and conducting research on the management of cultural-tourism enterprises. Graduates are well-prepared to pursue doctoral degrees in fields such as management, economics, sociology, and cultural communication, or to enter government agencies (e.g., cultural tourism departments), tourism organizations, and other related sectors.
The Human Resource Management specialization focuses on digital transformation and sustainable development, with key research areas including digital human resource management, ESG and human resource management, and the relationship between green, low-carbon development and human resource management. Graduates can pursue doctoral degrees in fields such as organizational behavior, labor economics, psychology, and education. They are also well-equipped for human resource management positions in government agencies, management consulting firms, and human resource roles in medium to large enterprises.
Talent Development
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences collaborates across curriculum, research, and industry platforms to cultivate talent, continuously enhancing the quality of talent development. The curriculum platform focuses on using tasks as a vehicle to implement heuristic, seminar-based, and case-based teaching methods, aiming to stimulate and develop graduate students' innovative thinking abilities. The School is equipped with high-level research platforms, such as the Beijing Philosophy and Social Science Research Base – the Beijing Modern Industry New Area Development Research Base, the Research Center for Tourism Innovation and Green Development, the Conference and Exhibition Communication Research Center, the Tourism and Cultural Creativity Center, the Capital Community Social Governance Innovation Research Center, and the ESG Leadership and Talent Development Research Center. It maintains strong research collaborations with national institutions, including the China Tourism Academy, and the U.S. Energy Foundation. These partnerships provide a rich, high-quality research and practical platform for cultivating top-tier tourism talent. The School is equipped with a multi-modal innovation training center for digital intelligence and humanities, featuring a series of cutting-edge artificial intelligence devices, which can support research and practice in cutting-edge fields such as digital cultural tourism and intelligent services. Relying on the rich industry resources and rapid information flow in the capital, the School has maintained long-term cooperative relationships with renowned enterprises such as China Tourism Group, RX China, and Beijing Capital Group Exhibitions & Events. It enables the School to offer diverse research project participation opportunities and high-quality internship and practical positions for postgraduate students.
The School places significant emphasis on fostering master's students' potential for academic innovation, encouraging them to conduct in-depth research grounded in the forefront of disciplinary knowledge and industry practices. Over the past three years, graduate students have focused on cutting-edge topics including hotel service innovation, tourism management, rural development, and energy utilization. Their research outcomes have been published in journals indexed by SSCI, SCI, and CSSCI, demonstrating strong research competence and exceptional innovative capabilities.
Research Projects and Rewards
In recent years, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences has undertaken nearly 40 vertical research projects, including five funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China or the National Social Science Foundation of China, as well as 16 at the provincial and ministerial level. The teaching faculty has participated in collaborative research projects commissioned by international institutions such as the Natural Resources Defense Council and Purdue University, as well as those entrusted by domestic organizations, including cultural and tourism bureaus across various provinces and cities. To date, a total of 104 horizontal projects have been completed, with a cumulative contract value exceeding 15 million RMB. Graduate students are actively involved in these research initiatives, refining their scientific reasoning and academic rigor, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application, and accumulating valuable project experience and industry connections that support their future professional development.
In recent years, faculty members of the School have published more than 180 high-quality academic papers and authored 35 academic monographs, 3 translated works, 10 edited volumes, and 12 textbooks. Research outcomes from these projects have been adopted by several institutions, including the Beijing Human Resources Research Center, the People's Government of Daxing District, Beijing, and the Department of Culture and Tourism of Shandong Province.
International Communication
The graduate education program at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences places significant emphasis on international exchange and actively facilitates opportunities for students to engage in international collaboration. Currently, the School has established "2+2" and "3+1" cooperative education programs with institutions such as St. Cloud State University and the University of Missouri in the United States, as well as short-term exchange and study programs during academic breaks with universities including the University of Malaya and Universiti Utara Malaysia. At the same time, the School is committed to the development of international master's students and has enrolled degree-seeking students from countries such as Vietnam and Russia. Through the School's academic training, some international graduates have successfully advanced to doctoral programs at institutions including Nankai University.
Employment Quality
In recent years, leveraging its strong reputation in professional talent development and its strategic location in Beijing, the capital city, the School has achieved consistently high employment quality for its master's degree graduates, reflecting a promising career outlook. According to employment statistics, the School has maintained a 100% employment rate among master's graduates over the years. Among these graduates, half have pursued doctoral studies at prestigious domestic universities such as Nankai University and East China University of Science and Technology, while the other half have secured positions at major state-owned enterprises, including China Tourism Group and CITIC Bank.
