Academy of Artificial Intelligence

The Academy of Artificial Intelligence was established in July 2020. Building on a foundation of high-level leading talents and advanced research platforms both domestically and internationally, the Academy aligns with the Next Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan (State Council Document No. 35, 2017) to address the economic and social development needs of Beijing. Its primary focus is on core technologies such as computer vision, intelligent healthcare, intelligent equipment and systems, and intelligent robotics.

Emphasizing the enhancement of original innovation capabilities, the Academy aims to advance AI in terms of its development direction, theories, methods, tools, and systems. It strives to promote talent cultivation, disciplinary growth, and technological progress in AI, foster deep integration of AI with social life and production, and support Beijing in becoming a hub for international AI fundamental theories, high-end talent, advanced technologies, and future industrial development.

The Academy has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Computer Network Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to establish the Chinese Academy of Sciences Computer Network Information Center–Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology Artificial Intelligence Joint Laboratory. This collaboration facilitates the sharing of AI, big data, and high-performance computing resources, deepens information exchange and academic cooperation, and jointly develops leading AI disciplines while cultivating outstanding graduate students in the field. Additionally, a scientific research and education cooperation agreement with Ajou University in South Korea has led to the establishment of the China–South Korea International Joint Research Center for Artificial Intelligence. This center conducts joint research on next-generation technologies and collaborates on doctoral training in AI, computer science and technology, and control science and engineering.

The Academy remains committed to its mission of cultivating high-quality talent for the capital region in the new era. It aligns with Beijing's AI-driven needs in industrial clusters such as next-generation information technology, intelligent robotics, high-end equipment, and healthcare. Dedicated to supporting Beijing's Four Centers initiative, this pursuit represents the unwavering goal of the Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology Academy of Artificial Intelligence.

Main research directions: computer vision, intelligent healthcare, intelligent equipment and systems, and intelligent robotics.
