School of Economics and Management

The School of Economics and Management (SEM) is one of the University's fast-growing secondary schools with a large student population, dynamic innovation and significant societal impact. Its origins trace back to the Department of Management established in 1986. In 2000, it was formally reconstituted as the School of Economics and Management following a strategic optimization and integration of internal university resources.

The School comprises four academic departments: Business Administration, Accounting, Business and Economics, and Information Management. It also houses several key teaching and research units, including the Economic Management Experimental Center, the BIPT-UWS Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Center, the Energy Environment and Low-Carbon Development Research Center, the Enterprise Development and Management Innovation Research Center, the Green Digital Intelligence Accounting and Auditing Research Center, and the Emergency Management and Intelligent Decision-Making Research Center.

The School offers a comprehensive range of programs. At the undergraduate level, it provides eight majors: Accounting, Marketing, Logistics Management, E-Commerce, Big Data Management and Application, Auditing, Supply Chain Management, and Financial Technology. Among these, the Accounting, Marketing, and Big Data Management and Application programs have been designated as Beijing Municipal First-Class Undergraduate Major Construction Sites. At the graduate level, the School holds authorization to confer master's degrees in the primary discipline of Business Administration, the professional Master's in Auditing, and the self-established secondary discipline of "Low-Altitude Airspace Resource Planning and Safety Management." The total enrollment of undergraduate and graduate students is nearly 2,000.

The School's academic strengths are underscored by several key designations: "Technology Economics and Management" is a Beijing Municipal Key Construction Discipline; the "Development Research Center of Beijing New Modern Industrial Area" is a Beijing Municipal Key Research Institution in Philosophy and Social Sciences; the research teams for "Petroleum Economic Security and Evaluation Innovation" and "Energy Efficiency Management Evaluation and Innovation" are recognized as Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Innovation Teams; "Business Administration" is a key university-level discipline with distinctive strengths; and the "Energy Environment and Low-Carbon Development Research Center" is a university-level key research institution. Furthermore, the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Talent Development Base, established in collaboration with the Beijing Institute of Certified Public Accountants, is a Beijing Higher Education Municipal-Level Off-Campus Talent Development Base. The School also collaborates with the Beijing Institute of Work Safety Engineering and Technology Postdoctoral Workstation to cultivate postdoctoral talent in emergency management.

    Our faculty is a cohesive, knowledgeable, rigorous, efficient, and innovative team with strong practical experience. The current full-time teaching staff of 66 includes 5 professors, 27 associate professors, and 34 master's thesis supervisors. Eighty-two percent hold doctoral degrees, and 25% have overseas study experience. The faculty boasts 1 Leading Talent from the Beijing High-Level Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program (High-creator Plan), 6 recipients of honors such as Beijing Municipal Teaching Master and Beijing Great Wall Scholar, 7 individuals recognized under talent plans like the Beijing Young Elite Talents, and 2 Beijing Science and Technology Innovation Teams. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, faculty have secured 29 new national and provincial/ministerial-level research projects with total funding exceeding 10 million RMB, published over 300 academic papers, and authored 26 monographs and textbooks. Their achievements include 1 second-class, 3 third-class, and 1 outstanding achievement award for provincial/ministerial-level scientific research; 1 first-class and 1 third-class science and technology progress award, and 1 science and technology innovation award from national industry associations; 1 first-class and 2 second-class Beijing Higher Education Teaching Achievement Awards; 1 second-class outstanding publication award from a national industry association; and 3 textbooks designated as national planning or outstanding textbooks. More than 30 applied research outcomes have been adopted and implemented by relevant government departments and enterprises.

 

The School places a strong emphasis on international exchange and cooperation, maintaining long-term partnerships with universities in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Norway, and other countries. Over 30 faculty members have undertaken academic exchanges or visiting scholarships abroad. We offer specialized English enhancement courses taught by foreign instructors for high-achieving students, invite international faculty to deliver full-English professional courses, and have established credit transfer agreements with several overseas partner institutions. Many students participate in international exchange programs organized by the School. Key milestones include: enrolling international undergraduate students in the International Economics and Trade program starting in 2011; launching a joint Master's program in Economics with Germany's FOM University of Applied Sciences in 2012; establishing the "BIPT-UWS Sino-Foreign Cooperative Learning Center" with the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) in 2013; initiating an ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) Experimental Class in collaboration with East Asia International in 2014; commencing a "3+1" collaborative program with the University of Missouri, USA, in 2017; enrolling international master's students in the Business Administration discipline in 2018; and jointly implementing the Beijing Municipal "Overseas Training Program" with the University of Missouri, USA, in 2019.

Committed to cultivating high-quality, application-oriented economics and management talents with international perspectives, social responsibility, innovative spirit, and practical capabilities, the School prioritizes the development of students' foundational competencies and comprehensive qualities. We emphasize a teaching model that integrates theory with practice and have established strong industry-academia-research partnerships with over 30 organizations, including the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Yanshan Petrochemical, Yonyou Network Technology Co., Ltd., Beijing Join-Cheer Software Co., Ltd., Digital China, Inspur Group, the Beijing Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Daxing District Audit Bureau of Beijing, China Resources Pharmaceutical Commercial Group Co., Ltd., and Beijing Zhongwu Cold Union Enterprise Management Co., Ltd.. Through these collaborations, we provide comprehensive training in practical business skills and innovation capabilities to students, ensuring our students possess a solid theoretical foundation, broad professional skills, and strong developmental potential to thrive in the competitive global job market amidst profound global changes and economic globalization. In recent years, our students have won numerous honors and awards in prestigious competitions such as the National E-commerce "Innovation, Creativity & Entrepreneurship" Challenge for College Students (3 Chuang), China International College Students' "Internet+" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the "Challenge Cup" National Undergraduate Business Plan Competition (the Challenge Cup), National Contest On Logistics Design by University Students (NCOLD) and the Global Management Challenge (GMC). A significant number of graduates have been recruited by renowned financial institutions, accounting firms, multinational corporations, and government agencies, both in China and abroad, receiving positive feedback from employers. An increasing number of students pursue further studies, gaining admission to prestigious graduate programs at top-tier Chinese universities or leading institutions overseas.
