In December 1999, Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology (BIPT) obtained the qualification to recruit and train international students. Since 2000, it has recruited non-native speakers for Chinese language learning and training, and in 2010, all undergraduate majors are open to international students. By actively engaging in the Belt and Road Initiative Education Action, BIPT contributes to the functional development of Beijing as an international exchange center. It mainly enrolls international students from over 20 countries along the Belt and Road,including Russia, Japan, South Korea, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Senegal, etc. It has initially established a comprehensive international education system featuring postdoctoral, academic,language,exchange,and short-term cultural exchange programs.
The university has achieved remarkable results in cultivating international students, many students have been awarded the Forbidden City Scholarship and the Beijing Government Scholarship. A large number of students have stood out in national and Beijing-level competitions, such as the National College Students’ Intercultural Communicative Competence Contest. A group of outstanding graduates have become high-quality international talents, who understand the excellency of Chinese culture and possess global competence. Some have become diplomats at foreign embassies in China, while others are working at Chinese embassies in foreign countries. Many students cherish their experience for their studies at BIPT, China, becoming ambassadors of friendship between China and foreign countries.
