School of Marxism
The School of Marxism at Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology (BIPT) is a demonstration site for the reform of ideological and political theory education in Beijing's higher education institutions. Its origins can be traced back to the Political Teaching and Research Office established during the university's founding in 1978, followed by the establishment of the Center for Ideological and Political Education in June 2009, and finally the School of Marxism in June 2017. The school currently comprises a General Office and six teaching and research offices: Basic Principles of Marxism, Theory of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, Modern and Contemporary History of China, Ideology, Morality and Rule of Law, Current Situation and Policies, and An Introduction to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
The School of Marxism adheres to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, keeps in mind its mission of "cultivating talents for the nation," strengthens the clear orientation that "the School of Marxism belongs to Marxism and speaks Marxist principles," and strives to build a robust platform for Marxist theoretical education, research, dissemination, and talent cultivation in the petrochemical industry.
The school boasts a team of full-time and part-time ideological and political education instructors characterized by strong political commitment, profound dedication, innovative thinking, broad perspectives, strict self-discipline, and upright character. The full-time faculty exhibits a well-balanced composition in terms of age, educational background, and academic credentials, including one Special-Class Professor of Ideological and Political Education of Beijing university, one Special-Class Teacher of Ideological and Political Education of Beijing university, one Outstanding Teacher of Beijing Municipality, two Outstanding Moral Education Workers of Beijing Municipality, one Young Teaching Master of Beijing Municipality, and one Pioneer in Teaching and Education within the Beijing education system, thereby achieving a structured team development with a focus on cultivating distinguished educators.
The school has actively promoted the integration of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era into textbooks, classrooms, and students' understanding, continuously strengthening the development of a curriculum cluster for ideological and political theory courses (hereinafter referred to as ideological and political courses) centered on this thought, forming a course system that combines compulsory and elective courses. We have deepened educational reforms in ideological and political courses, exploring a distinctive "four-have" education model at BIPT characterized by "coordinated mechanisms, branded activities, practical bases, and tangible educational outcomes." The school has launched teaching innovation initiatives to enhance the relevance and effectiveness of these courses, developing a five-step teaching methodology of "learning, reflection, research, comprehension, and action" with distinct BIPT features. These efforts have been widely reported by newspapers and mainstream media such as the People's Daily app, Beijing Daily, achieving the goal of "distinctive teaching reforms with notable achievements."
The school conducts in-depth research and interpretation on the theoretical and practical aspects of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. It publishes systematic and comprehensive theoretical articles in journals and online platforms such as Business Research, Contemporary World and Socialism, Comparison of Economic and Social Systems, Beijing Education, People's Forum Network, and Xuanjiangjia Network. Targeting theoretical "confusion points," emotional "trigger points," and ideological "resonance points," the school organizes faculty members to visit trade unions, youth leagues, enterprises, communities, and rural areas in order to contributes the wisdom of BIPT of School of Marxism to the development of the capital in the new era, achieving both substantial research interpretation and significant impact.
The discipline of Marxist theory has played a leading role in the development of School of Marxism. In 2021, the discipline was designated as a key discipline by BIPT and has developed three distinct research directions: "Basic Principles of Marxism," "Research on the Sinicization of Marxism," and "Ideological and Political Education." This framework provides support for building a premier hub for engineers in the new era and cultivating new generations characterized by sound ideological integrity, profound scientific literacy, distinctive professional expertise, and proactive initiative, thereby ensuring that disciplinary development is both directionally clear and highly effective.
